Nice

Very portable with xlr mic, but I have no idea about the quality of preamp.

This product competes with Saramonic SR VRM1. Saramonic incorporated the idea of Tascam to produce SR VRM1. Tascam Dr 10x recorder is very handy, however, the sliding record function is a pain to operate. The battery do not last long but serves the purpose. I suspect the gain function inside the unit is a software limiter without ceiling or you could call a compressor. This product do not have phantom power. This works well with Dynamic microphones and battery powered condenser microphones. When the gain is increased, the noise floor doubles. The latching mechanism is not that great. The product Bajaoo sent had the newer firmware pre installed. The Tascam DR 10x is good for recording interviews where the sound source is very close to the microphone, this includes use of shotgun mics too. For film sound, I would not recommend this product. This is where the tascam recorder outperforms Saramonic SR VRM1. VRM 1 has a headphone output inside a small cover, that has to be opened everytime you want to monitor. Wierd idea. Also, Saramonic do not have a USB to transfer files.
