The SPL SMC 5.1 Surround Monitor Controller is an industry-standard solution for accurate, reliable 5.1 and stereo monitoring in professional studios. It features a high-precision 6-channel analog volume control combined with flexible speaker management, making it ideal for mixing, mastering, post-production, and broadcast environments. The unit supports two 5.1 inputs and two stereo inputs, allowing seamless comparison between multiple sources. Its DB25 input enables balanced connection from the DAW, routing channels 1–6 for surround and 7/8 for stereo monitoring. Consumer audio sources such as DVD/Blu-ray players are automatically compensated for level differences, ensuring consistent loudness.

The SMC offers practical monitoring functions including Mono switching for front and rear stereo pairs, individual speaker on/off, and a Mute All option to instantly silence output during system errors. Balanced inputs can be looped to Slave Out for external metering, while balanced TRS speaker outputs automatically adapt when TS plugs are used. Robust, transparent, and highly versatile, the SMC is an essential tool for surround monitoring workflows.
