Mumford & Sons have been confirmed as headliners of Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park 2016. The band will be joined on the July 8 bill by Wolf Alice and Alabama Shakes, with more artists to be announced. Take That were previously revealed to be playing the London festival on July 9. Tickets for the Mumford & Sons fronted show go on sale at 9am on November 27. Ahead of the gig, Mumford & Sons play a major tour of UK and Ireland, which starts on November 18 at Nottingham Capital FM Arena.

Speaking to the band ahead of the announcement, guitar and banjo Winston Marshall told NME there was a "high chance" that the band would have new material to play at the Hyde Park show. The band have played Hyde Park previously, but never headlined the central London space. "We want to play, like, everywhere and it does feel quite fresh for us to play it," commented Marshall. "I guess other places that we really want to play eventually would be Finsbury Park, that would be fucking wicked." He then hinted at plans for the band's fourth album, saying: "I think now we’re at this point where the old songs and the new songs are fucking great together and now we’re looking to write new songs and write new records." Bass player Ted Dwane appeared to confirm the chance of new material by next summer, stating: "There might be one or two new ones by then hopefully." Speaking about their plans for their big London show next year, he added: "It’s a really big deal for us. It’s very different to a festival headline slot or something; it feels a bit more like your own gig." Dwane explained that the show will likely be their only UK festival appearance next year. "It’s certainly the only thing we’re planning right now. I think, to do a big one like that, you do want to focus not only everyone’s attention on it, but our own as well. It’s quite good, from within a band, just to pull back the moment. I don’t think we want to dilute it for our own minds, or anyone else’s. So that’s likely to be the only thing, I think." Marshall then appeared to suggest that Mumford & Sons would collaborate live onstage with support band Alabama Shakes at the Hyde Park gig. "We’d love to fucking collaborate with those guys and do something with them. Their last album is easily one of my albums of the year. It’s just such a good record. So I hope to do something with those guys."
