Zildjian - Celebrating 393 years of finest cymbals

From the Ottoman Empire in 1623 to one of world's leading Cymbal Manufacturer

Avedis Zildjian, an alchemist in Constantinople, first discovered a method of fusing copper, tin, and silver to create his unique instruments in the 16th century and till present day, the Zildjian mystique has captivated musicians and listeners alike due to its secret blending of metals which help to create the celebrated "Zildjian sound ". This Zildjian sound became a family tradition and a secret which only the company's heirs know about.

Prior to 1851, the Zildjian Family's cymbals were simply known as "Turkish Cymbals." Avedis Zildjian II was the first in the family to manufacture the cymbals bearing the family name. In 1865, Kerope Zildjian succeeded Avedis II and maintained the family's tradition. During the late 1800's, Kerope was recognized throughout Europe and beyond as one of the most accomplished craftsman of the Zildjian family. His 'K Zildjian' cymbals surpassed all others in terms of resonance, thinness (always difficult to create) and durability.

Around 1928, Avedis III, began manufacturing cymbals in Quincy, Massachusetts. The Avedis Zildjian Co. was formed on September 19, 1929. Avedis made many innovations in cymbals that are still around today; he was the first to develop drumset cymbals and gave cymbals names such as ride, crash, splash, and hi-hat.

The business passed to Avedis' son, Armand in 1977 who took care of the company until 1999. In keeping with tradition, Armand passed the Zildjian Secret Alloy to his daughters, Craigie and Debbie (14th generation), both of whom continue to run the family business from the current factory in Norwell, Massachusetts.

Beyond leading an entire sector of the music industry , Avedis Zildjian company is also one of the oldest companies in the world today. They've dominated since 1623 and without a doubt, their success is going to keep rolling well past their 400th birthday due to the support from the best drummers in history as well as today.  Here are some of the notable bands and artists who prefer the Zildjian sound.

Ringo Starr of The Beatles | Matt Sorum of Guns N' Roses | Dominic Howard of Muse | Joey Kramer of Aerosmith | Dave Grohl of Nirvana | Lars Ulrich of Metallica

The list is pretty much endless - Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Toto, Dream Theatre, Coldplay, Linkin Park, Blink 182, Cannibal Corpse, Journey, REO Speedwagon, Yes, The Rolling Stones, The Carpenters, The Kings of Leon, David Bowie, Kiss, Megadeth, Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Def Leppard, Chicago, Queen, Cream, Ozzy Osbourne, Peter Gabriel, Sting, Dire Straights, Miles Davis, Dropkick Murphys, Limp Bizkit, Phish, Rage Against The Machine, Genesis, Phil Collins, Dio, White Snake...
