What a rocket!

After playing a student-level trumpet for several years, I decided to move up to something more professional. While I was unsure whether I should go for a trumpet or the flugelhorn. Since I love the mellow sound of the fluge, I went for this one. After about six months of playing this horn, I have to agree that I'd rather play this than my trumpet. The sound is incredibly sweet. Full, dark in the lows and bright in the highs. Beautiful to play any jazz ballad, and equally capable of playing a fast funk number. I got the unfinished, vintage version and I was a little disappointed to see the surface of the metal oxidising. I figured it was because of the coating on top and hit a patch up with metal polish. My hunch was correct and I see no signs of corrosion in that patch. I'd recommend that you take the time to give this a good scrub with a metal polish. The horn is a lot heavier than you'd expect; definitely a lot heavier than my trumpet, but it's something you should expect of a fluge as well as any horn with a dark sound. It's a good investment for your money as you get a pro-level horn for what you'd normally pay for an entry-level horn from one of the bigger names in the industry.
